Working Men and Women stand with John Callahan for Congress

Callahan announces 31 labor endorsements

BETHLEHEM, PA. - Today Mayor John Callahan unveiled 31 endorsements from labor organizations in his campaign for Congress. These unions represent a grassroots network of thousands of working men and women in the Lehigh Valley who will volunteer and play an instrumental role in delivering Mayor Callahan’s message to voters.

“I’m proud to have the endorsement of the working men and women of the Lehigh Valley,” said Mayor John Callahan. “Congressman Dent has repeatedly voted to support corporate special interests instead of families here in the Lehigh Valley, his priorities are backwards. As a Mayor, I’ve helped attract over 5,000 jobs to the Lehigh Valley and cut city debt by $60 million and I look forward to taking this record to Congress.”

“John Callahan has a record of working for families in the Lehigh Valley and that’s why the AFL-CIO unanimously endorsed him,” said Gregg Potter, President of the Lehigh Valley Labor Council. “Congressman Dent does not represent the interests of working Americans, he represents the interests of Wall Street bankers.”

“SEIU is proud to endorse John Callahan for Congress because of his commitment to helping create jobs and his record of getting it done,” said Eileen Connelly, Executive Director for SEIU PA State Council. “It’s wrong that Pennsylvania taxpayers are paying for Congressman Dent’s health insurance after he voted against health insurance for working Americans.”

“Our members are supporting John Callahan because he has helped bring good jobs to the Lehigh Valley,” said Todd Singer, President of AFSCME Council 13. “If Congressman Dent is reelected, more jobs and services will be cut and more American families will find themselves falling into a deeper recession.”

“Mayor Callahan has made putting people back to work his top priority and the Building Trades is proud to stand with him,” said Mark Snyder, President of the Lehigh Valley Building and Construction Trades. “Congressman Dent voted to raise everyone’s electric rates by 30% and we can’t afford to have a Congressman that makes job-killing votes like that.”

“John Callahan has gotten the job done for working Americans in the Lehigh Valley and we support John because he’ll stand up and fight to move this country forward in Congress,” said Keith Hill, AFGE 3rd District National Vice President. “Congressman Dent is trying to take our Nation backward and that’s exactly the wrong thing to do during this recession.”
